By using Brief (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. Contact: [email protected].
The Service
Brief is a Mac and iPhone app that reads your iMessages on your Mac to surface action items and generate a daily brief. You're responsible for the device permissions you grant (such as Full Disk Access) and for the content of your own messages.
How filtering works, and what that means for your messages. On the free plan, filtering runs entirely on your Mac and no message content leaves the device. On the paid plans, Brief sends the candidate message and a few surrounding lines to its AI provider to judge whether it is actionable; that text is used only to answer that request and is not stored by us or used to train models. If you supply your own provider key (Bring Your Own Key), that text goes to your provider under their terms. In every case, only the extracted action — a title, date/time and short summary — is saved to your account. See the Privacy Policy.
Your account
You sign in with your email via a one-time link. You're responsible for keeping access to your email account secure. You must be at least 13 years old to use Brief.
Acceptable use
- Use Brief only with messages and accounts you own or are authorized to access.
- Don't attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or abuse the Service or its providers.
- Don't use Brief for anything unlawful.
Subscriptions, billing & cancellation
- Brief offers four plans: a free tier (up to 100 actioned items per month and the basic daily brief); Bring Your Own Key at $6.99/month, which provides cloud filtering using an API key you supply and pay your provider for directly; Pro at $16.99/month, which provides the same cloud filtering on Brief's own key together with the full morning brief, and surfaces up to 500 items for review per month; and Premium at $24.99/month, which removes the monthly item limit and adds the daily Brief Plus modules. Monthly only — there are no annual plans.
- Subscribing to Premium includes your first month free, applied by the App Store as an introductory offer at the time of purchase; the subscription then renews at the listed price until cancelled. Founding members receive 50% off their first year when they redeem their invite code. No charge is made unless you actively choose a paid plan.
- Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store and billed to your Apple ID. They renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before renewal.
- You can manage or cancel anytime in Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store terms; we don't process payments directly.
- Cloud filtering and the full morning brief run on Brief's own AI service — included in your plan, with nothing extra to set up or pay for.
- Optionally, you may bring your own AI provider key instead. That is a choice, not a requirement; if you use one, you are responsible for any usage charges your provider bills you.
Third-party services
Brief relies on third parties (Apple, Supabase, weather/news/sports/finance sources, and any AI provider you connect). Your use of those is subject to their terms, and we're not responsible for their availability or content.
Disclaimer & limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Brief surfaces and summarizes content automatically and may miss items or make mistakes — don't rely on it as your sole record for anything critical. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months.
Termination
You can stop using Brief and delete your account at any time (email us). We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms.
Changes
We may update these terms; we'll update the date above and, for material changes, notify you.
